Cascadia Kids’ Folk Choir

Cascadia Kids’ Folk Choir

A joyful place for children to find their voices in harmony with others.

The Cascadia Kids’ Folk Choir in Eugene, Oregon, is a warm, welcoming space for children to explore their voices, connect with community, and grow through the shared experience of song. Rooted in the spirit of folk traditions, we sing songs of nature, kindness, courage, and belonging — music that speaks to the heart and reminds us of our connection to one another and the living world.

About the Choir

Through singing, rhythm, and playful movement, children develop musical skills in a way that feels natural and engaging. Each rehearsal includes time for learning new songs, exploring harmony, and listening deeply — to the music, to one another, and to themselves.

Our repertoire includes traditional folk songs from many cultures, simple part-singing, and songs that honor the beauty of the natural world and the rhythms of the seasons here in our local environment. Alongside music-making, we emphasize collaboration, respect, and confidence — helping children discover both their individual voice and their place in a group.

Our Approach

Music is a natural language of the heart — a way of connecting, expressing, and growing together. Our rehearsals weave musical learning with play, imagination, and emotional presence. Singing becomes a way to practice listening, cooperation, and creative expression — not just a performance skill, but a way of being in community.

Why Choose the Cascadia Kids’ Folk Choir

The Cascadia Kids’ Folk Choir was created to offer something a little different — a musical home for children that is joyful, grounded, and heart-led.

Our gatherings are secular and inclusive, welcoming children and families of all backgrounds and beliefs. We sing songs that celebrate our shared humanity and our connection to the natural world — music that uplifts, and that helps children feel part of something kind and meaningful.

Unlike more formal or performance-focused choirs, our approach is relaxed and relational. We believe children thrive when they feel safe, seen, and inspired — not pressured. There are no auditions, uniforms, or expectations of perfection here. Instead, we nurture confidence, cooperation, and curiosity through the simple joy of singing together.

Who It’s For

The choir is geared toward children ages 8–12. Younger children who love to sing may join with a parent present, and older children who want to sing with us absolutely may do so. No prior musical experience is necessary — just a love of singing and a willingness to join in. We welcome all voices, from the shy to the exuberant, and celebrate each child’s unique sound and contribution.

Performances

While our focus is on the joy of singing together, we also love to share our music with the wider community from time to time. These gatherings are gentle, celebratory opportunities for the children to experience the magic of singing for others — not as a polished performance, but as an offering of connection and joy.

Participation in performances is always optional. When we do share songs publicly, it’s in relaxed, welcoming settings that reflect our values — places like the Eugene Saturday Market, the Mushroom Festival or Wildflower Festival at Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, and local senior living communities might be venues we would choose.

These experiences give children a sense of pride and purpose, while keeping the spirit of the choir rooted in kindness, presence, and play. Whether on stage or in a circle under the trees, our intention is the same: to bring people together through song.

Other Details

This choir will begin rehearsing in January of 2026. Contact Kelsey to reserve your child's place.

Rehearsals meet twice weekly for 75 minutes. Each week’s two sessions cover the same material, offering families flexibility — come to whichever rehearsal best fits your rhythm, use the second option to make up for sick days or busy weeks, or join both for extra singing and connection if you wish.

Currently, we plan to meet on Mondays from 5:30–6:45pm and on Wednesdays from 4:15–5:30pm. This rehearsal schedule is subject to change, as I receive inquiries and do my best to accommodate families' needs.
